What is 'The Beauty Hack'?

Fast Beauty.  No Fuss.  I come across a lot of great products as well as offers, tips, time savers so I created this place with the intention of sharing short, sharp posts.  A way to share things that I felt might overload or not fit in on my main blog (beauty, makeup, lifestyle etc) Computergirl's Musings, or my fashion blog www.5foot10.blogspot.com

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes so you never know what will crop up.
Christmas Kittens in hats.  Beautiful.

Dry lips tips (thanks to Liz Earle).

I'm not one for cutting and pasting press release, but this seemed good advice so I thought I would share.  Liz Earle (creator of the Liz Earle skincare product range, amongst other things..) has shared these tips for combating dry lips in winter.

Dry Lips No More!

  1. Drink plenty of water and up your intake of B vitamins as low levels can lead to dry, cracked skin.
  2. Resist the urge to lick your lips – this only makes them sorer.
  3.  Buff away dead skin cells away using a soft toothbrush to help reduce chapping.
  4. Read the labels! Not all lip balms are the same. Balms or sticks made with mineral oil or petroleum jelly don’t moisturise as such, they simply sit on the lips’ surface, and may even dry the lips out. Flavoured lip balms may taste nice but they might encourage you to lick your lips even more. More natural ingredients, such as plain plant oils and purified lanolin are by far the best choices for keeping lips soft and comfortable.
  5.  Very sensitive lips respond best to a fragrance-free, natural emollient. Most nipple creams, especially those that contain purified medical grade lanolin, can actually be the best balms for very sore lips.
  6.  You don’t have to forego the glamour! Lip gloss can help protect against the drying wintry elements, or try a tinted lip balm containing vitamin E, shea or cocoa butter.

Luxury Hotels with 50% code : Mr and Mrs Smith

A slight beauty side step- but we all know what wonders a bit of beauty sleep does.  Long lazy days relaxing by a pool (with carefully placed shade umbrellas), wandering to local vibrant markets, eating food freshly prepared in local restaurants accompanied by a glass of local wine.  An evening sunset cocktail before reading on your balcony (where the air is so warm you don't need many layers on- not like the UK!).  Perhaps the next day you could Island hop on the rocky Italian coastline or visit a secluded beach on one of the Greek islands- maybe go for a swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea.  Maybe you're a city girl and would like to visit Madrid, or the ever beautiful and cultural Barcelona...?

We all work so hard these days that getting a break is somethings the only thing that keeps us going.  Perhaps you are a culture vulture and would soak up the historic parts of Florence- maybe night life is your relaxation.  Maybe you'll appreciate a spa in Morrocco- whatever it is, Mr and Mrs Smith is certainly worth a look if you would like a fantastic rest.
Sun, blue sky, pool, quiet, lush vineyards... I'm there in my mind!

Why not go on holiday and claim 50% off with Mr & Mrs Smith (if booked by 14 May).  I'm pondering between Greece or Spain this year.  Blue seas, cloudless skies, peace and quiet... I'm there already!!  I find booking ahead helps to give me something to aim for on those days when everything goes wrong.

Click here to see what Mr. and Mrs Smith can offer you by way of affordable luxury!  You'll need to use the codeword 'HOLIDAY' to claim your discount.  Good luck!

FREE Urban Decay Naked Palette: Free MAKEUP!

This offer was too good to miss!  Due to an oversight in the manufacturing factory Urban Decay have ended up with a batch of palettes they can not sell.  Basically they fall foul of EU regulations due to a misprint of ingredients on the packaging.  To print and then hand stick correction labels would be too time (and material) costly so Urban Decay have decided to give these 'faulty' palettes away to bloggers for review rather than chuck them into landfill!  Apparently first come first served.

To get hold of your palette you just need to fill in a simple form on Urban Decay's site- it's a hidden form and just emailed out to press contacts- so you can only get to it if you have the link (which Ive placed below).  Numbers are limited so don't waste time!  If you're lucky enough to get one do let me know!

Good Luck!  To apply for your palette CLICK HERE!

Secret Sales : Slendertone

I just through I would give you a heads up about Secret Sales.  They currently have the slendertone toning systems on their site (which I reviewed HERE)- a great way to tone up while also being able to do other things like washing up, ironing, emails- reading your favorite blogs?!

If you are not familiar with secretsales.com then they are a sort of bulk buy website (which then passes the discount on to the customer).  However with this one you know what will appear in advance, you place your order when the sale is open.  Once the sale is closed the item is ordered and sent.  They have had some great designer makeup and beauty items on there, not to mention shoes (I think I saw some Christan Louboutins recently!) so worth signing up (for free) and looking!

Have you used this website?  Can you recommend any others?
